The internet-in-a-suitcase is what Secretary of State Hillary Clinton calls “the freedom to connect”. It is a kit of wireless routers and software that could be smuggled into an authoritarian country and allow revolutionaries to set up their own local area network (LAN). At least that is what the CIA and Clinton are hoping for. As the CIA has spent many man-hours infiltrating recent “grassroots” revolutions across the globe, this technology will make their jobs quite a bit easier. Basically, the CIA would need only provide the internet-in-a-suitcase to a country, like Egypt (at the inception of the Arab Spring). This technology would enable the “grassroots” demonstrators to continue to use an internet connection even after their government has pulled the plug.
